Founding CrossFit Elmira is something I am very proud of. With the help of an incredible coaching team and the best members a gym owner could ask for we are building an amazing community. Put our amazing coaches and the best members into a world class facility and you have the gym I always dreamed of owning.

The core of who we are has never been more important to me. We are a fitness family that is here to support, encourage, and empower each other. Regardless of who you are, you belong at CrossFit Elmira. Our values of Consistency, Effort, and Time are lived out daily by all of us. Show up consistently, put in your best effort, allow time to work, and you will get your results.

I love to walk through the gym and witness a class full of people vibrantly smiling. There is nothing more powerful than a group of like minded people working towards being the best version of themselves while sweating, laughing, and encouraging each other.

Being a multi sport athlete with a passion for health and fitness, when I found CrossFit Elmira I was enamoured by the methodology. CrossFit encompasses all things fitness; cardiovascular capacity, strength, community, nutrition and wellness.

I completed a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a diploma in fitness and health promotion from the university of Guelph-Humber in 2021. Previously working as a strength and conditioning coach for the varsity athletes and personal trainer, I’ve always had a passion for helping others become the best version of themselves.

As a CrossFit L1 certified coach it’s my goal to help individuals push their boundaries and create meaningful change in their lives. I truly believe with the support of the CrossFit Elmira team our members can achieve their goals!

The environment and culture at CrossFit Elmira is something I enjoy being a part of everyday. As a coach, I love seeing people challenge themselves and walk out of the gym knowing they accomplished their goals. It is my passion to see people reach the personal goals that they have set for themselves.

I have my CrossFit L1 certification and am enjoying the process of learning new skills that make a successful coach. I want to continue to do my part to make the gym a place people look forward to coming to everyday.

With a background spanning multiple competitive sports, I found a true passion in CrossFit. My first CrossFit workout was the grueling encounter with "Karen", igniting a love-hate relationship with wall balls, and an enduring commitment to the CrossFit lifestyle. CrossFit wasn't just about fitness, it was a convergence of all the elements that fueled my competitive spirit.

Working in healthcare, and studying Public Health in University, I began to understand the importance of taking a proactive approach to health. It was during this journey that my path intersected with CrossFit, illuminating a holistic approach to well-being that resonated deeply. Recognizing the interconnectedness of exercise, nutrition, and overall wellness, I found that CrossFit wasn't just a fitness regimen but a philosophy geared towards helping individuals feel better, move better, and ultimately enhance their quality of life.

While the methodology is what pulled me to CrossFit, the community and camaraderie made me stay. As a CrossFit L1 & L2 coach, I love sharing my passion for fitness and nutrition to empower people to move better, feel better, and accomplish things they didn't know they could do.

After several years of triathlon racing I was looking for something new to continue my fitness journey. While I felt reasonably fit in the domain of cardiovascular endurance, I felt I was lacking in the areas of strength and flexibility. My search brought me to CrossFit and I quickly realized the constantly varied, functional movement programming was very effective in achieving a higher level of overall fitness.

However, the most powerful aspect of CrossFit is the community. The loudest cheers in the gym are typically reserved, not for the 1st place finisher, but for the person fighting to get those last few reps in before the clock runs out. CrossFit Elmira is made up of an incredible group of people supporting each other to make themselves better today than yesterday.

I am a 3X Ironman finisher and have my CrossFit L1 certification. As a Masters age athlete I appreciate the challenges that age brings to our health and mobility. As a coach, it is very rewarding to help our athletes, of all ages, achieve their goals, regain mobility they may have lost and to accomplish things in the gym they, themselves, didn’t think were possible

I walked through the doors of CrossFit Elmira in 2014, knowing no one, and in no time at all I was
hooked. Before, the gym had just been a tool to increase my fitness level, but CrossFit Elmira changed that. A
membership here not only increased my fitness and knowledge but allowed me to create amazing
connections with so many others. Since joining CrossFit Elmira, I’ve completed the CrossFit Level 1 Certificate
Course as well as the CrossFit Kids Certificate course. I’ve spent the past several years working with
youth and sports teams, teaching and encouraging health and fitness with our youth.

At CrossFit Elmira we work hard, but even more importantly we have fun while incorporating
movement. With a membership base that houses a range of ages that are decades apart, it’s incredible
to watch members coming together to encourage and support each other. Being part of a person
fitness journey and helping them achieve their goals is a privilege.

Growing up, I played a variety of sports, with football being the one I focused on and played the most. However, I never began working out consistently until I was out of high school and done playing competitive sports. After going to a conventional gym for a number of years consistently, some friends showed me some CrossFit workouts on their farm. I decided to join CrossFit Elmira and have never looked back, in fact I just wish I would've joined sooner than I did!

The feeling of getting new PR's (personal records) in the weightlifting, along with improving my ability and work capacity in longer workouts was a sense of accomplishment for me. It was very exciting and always kept me looking forward to the next without! Even when the effort from the workout left me on the floor gasping for air it was usually my favorite part of the day.

The PR's are great, but the fun I had with other members and coaches during my regular class time is a huge part of why I say it was the best part of my day. Even if I had a bad day, it would always cheer me up to see everyone, and get through a challenging workout together. I've been a member now for about 7 years and recently began coaching. I enjoy coaching as much as being part of the class, and still get that good feeling when I see others put their best effort into a tough workout.

As a former competitive dancer, I have always had an interest in health and fitness. When I stopped dancing, I really missed moving and challenging my body in new ways. I came through the doors of CrossFit Elmira in 2018, and ultimately fell in love with the community and full range of functional fitness training that CrossFit Elmira offers.

I hold a Masters degree in Education and the opportunity to share knowledge and skills, as well as learn from others, energizes me the most. After feeling so supported by the coaches at CrossFit Elmira throughout two pregnancies, and the post-partum journeys that followed, I felt inspired to attain my L1 certificate so that I could share my perspective and experience. As an L1 certified CrossFit coach, I am passionate about encouraging others to achieve their personal health goals. I think it really comes down to being able to move safely in a supportive environment, adjusting expectations, keeping mindset in check, and ultimately honouring the season you are in.

With a previous background in body building/power lifting style training, I never imagined I’d stumble across CrossFit Elmira. I had my preconceived notions and thoughts on what CrossFit was. But was I ever wrong! I was instantly hooked! The ideology and fundamentals of CrossFit Elmira really resonated with me! The importance on overall health, mobility, proper mechanics, and technique really instilled a desire to keep pursuing CrossFit.

What CrossFit Elmira has done for me physically and mentally has drastically benefited my life inside and out of the gym! I am so lucky to have found this amazing community! After obtaining my CrossFit L1 certification, I am so honoured to work alongside others who believe in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Coaching gives me the opportunity to do what I'm passionate about everyday. I'm excited to be a part of your journey and to help you become the best version of yourself - both physically and mentally, through the power of CrossFit.

Why do I care about health and fitness? I want to be able to say “yes” to opportunities in life and not be limited by my physical abilities. I want to lead by example to my family, friends and members of the CrossFit Elmira community. As you are aware by now, good health and fitness takes time, consistency and effort…there’s no magic bullet. I love working with people to help them along this path and journey. Coaching CrossFit since 2009 has allowed me to meet and work with some amazing people. I love connecting with members and sharing insights that I’ve gleaned from my experience. I have also learned a great deal from the people I’ve worked with as well. CrossFit is a great platform for people to learn, grow and develop both physically and mentally.

When I first joined CrossFit Elmira, I didn’t anticipate how quickly I’d get hooked. Growing up playing various sports, I always enjoyed physical activity, however when I stopped playing team sports, I dropped the ball on my fitness. I pushed myself to start and I joined CrossFit Elmira, not knowing most of the movements, and being new to the area, not knowing many people either. However, the environment at CrossFit Elmira provided me a space to learn new things, step out of my comfort zone, and ultimately improve my overall health while being surrounded by encouraging like-minded individuals.

Being a CrossFit L1 certified coach, my goal is to provide a space where people feel empowered to test their boundaries, learn new skills, and realize their potential. I aim to continue to provide a positive environment and gain new expertise to share with others.

Do I have to keep up with others in class?

No. CrossFit Elmira is not a competition floor. We are a training facility. Training and competing are very different. More often than not you will be asked to slow down and move better. Our motto at the gym is “more isn’t better, better is better”

Every member does their own workout, based on their own ability, using an appropriate weight or scale. This will create the correct stimulus leading to the right outcome so you can be successful on your fitness journey.

If finishing last in the workout is too humbling for you we aren’t the right fit for each other.

I have an injury, can I still do CrossFit?

Yes you can. We will discuss your injury during your intake process. The classes are scalable for all fitness levels. We have members in class ranging from high school students to grandparents.

Is it all done in classes?

Yes, but an open gym membership is for those who prefer to workout on their own.

Am I fit enough to start?

Yes you are. Everyone is unique and our intake process is customized to each new member. It starts with a 20 minute one-on-one meeting to discuss your goals. Next we will decide if you need some personal training to get some intro workouts in before joining classes. This is usually between 1 and 5 sessions. After these intro session(s) you will be confident to join classes.
